Shades of Mahogany

Donna Mack began her career at Wright’s Barber Shop after graduating high school in 1981. When creating a name for her business, Donna wanted to reflect the fact that African Americans are born in all different shades of mahogany, and Donna’s Shades of Mahogany was created. In 1993, she moved her business located near the intersection of 9th and Main Street to its current location at 822 E Main Street in Richmond, IN. She offers curls, relaxers, colors, and protective styles such as sew-in extensions, crochet styles, braiding, keratin treatments, and loves to do children’s hair. Donna’s Shades of Mahogany is also a three-time winner (2010, 2011, and 2012) of Best Hair Design from Richmond Civic Theatre! She has provided services for many performances at RCT including “Ain’t Misbehavin’”, “Ragtime”, “Dreamgirls”, and many more. Outside of work, Donna is very involved with her church. She is on the stewardship of finance and the apartments committee and devotes a lot of her time there to help feed the less fortunate. She has also worked with Wayne County Children Services to assist foster parents by teaching them how to care for African American hairstyles. She had this to say about her business; “I have very supportive and nice clients who are always offering to help at my church. My landlords, Ray and Sharon Ontko, are the nicest that I could ask for. They are always willing to help me with what I need no matter what it is.” She has been happily married to her husband, Eric, for 35 years and they have two children, Cassandra and Devon. Donna enjoys gospel music, loves to bake, and her favorite movie is “The Wizard of Oz”. Donna’s Shades of Mahogany is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10:00am-6:00pm. Walk-ins are welcome on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. For all other days, please call 765-966-0624 to schedule an appointment.
